Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel

I read Wolf Hall in January and it was shockingly good. A 650 page book on Tudor politics may not sound like a barn burner, but it was completely compelling and the writing! Oh, the writing is heavenly. The Booker committee has been on a roll the last few years with The White Tiger and this. Mantel builds a Tudor England with sights and sounds and smells and textures. Her version of Cromwell is a truly awe inspiring statesman, and her Thomas More is definitely not the one I remember from history class. Five thumbs up!
